Bing Crosby's 1973 Merry Christmas Vinyl Album

1

Type of Work: Vinyl Cover and Album Design

Credits, Who Made It: MCA-15024, Alex Steinweiss (most likely)

Format, Media: Vinyl and paper cover

Vinyls were the first mediums of music to be given designs to differentiate from. They used to be in brown paper bags, and developed into what we see here. The artist is hard to find, which is why more credit needs to be given to those who do album work, then and now. It was most likely that Alex Steinweiss created or helped to create this design cover, because he worked with Bing Crosby on album designs during this time.

Back in 1973, there seemed to be a lot to celebrate. Hip hop was born at a teen party in the Bronx, Dolly Parton released hit single “Jolene”, and the Sydney Opera House opens. The music industry was changing as we knew it, and with all of these new music genres and songs being released, Crosby released his own hit album. This album includes his signature “White Christmas” song, previously released in 1942. Crosby has since sold over one billion records, tapes, compact discs, and digital downloads.
